Back to blogging at midnight

Ladies and gents, I can now resume my normal late-night blogging habits because...(drum roll please)...

WE GOT THE INTERNETS.

Free internets! At our apartment! Guaranteed for seven years! (Please bless that we are not still in this apartment in seven years.)

I don't mean to trivialize the occasion by wasting my first at-home post, but I really really really just want to post that it happened today because it just feels momentous. You go live as a student without at-home internet for six months and then tell me that you don't find free wi-fi to be a wonderful novelty. You probably cannot. (I shouldn't assume that.)

It was Richard, who gave us access to the interwebs. Richard, who does some work at Sundance showing around the fancy celebrities and some work for Google Fiber installing free internets. Richard, who mentioned to me that it was cold outside, and then that it was hot outside, and then wrapped up his visit by telling me it was cold enough to get "ammonia--no wait, pneumonia." That's about as interesting as our conversations got.

I of course instagrammed a pic right after he left, and then we ran off to finish up our last day of school. Oh, did I mention that the semester ended today?? Life is oh-so-good.

Anyways, just wanted to stop by and say that I have deep gratitude in my heart for Google Fiber tonight.
I'll be back on this blog more often now that I don't have to work my posts into random on-campus free time. Wahoo!!

Plants: Dracaena

Dracaena (druh-see-nuh) was my first plant from plants class. She's been naughty ever since.
And by that I mean that she's the hardest to water. I think I overwatered, and then I overcompensated by underwatering, and then I maybe overwatered again? But I swear I wasn't doing it on purpose. You'd think we would have learned about this in class, but we learn more of "general principles" than plant specifics, and I was following principles as I learned them! So....I dunno. We might just fight until she dies.

Dracaena lives atop our tallest bookshelf and is thereby the tallest thing in our house. This also doesn't help the watering situation...
But I love her anyway!

PS: Congrats to coworker Miranda who rocked "name that plant." Ficus was the last one. Variegated, of course.

Plants: Tillandsia

In case you have not yet heard, I have a small obsession with plants and flowers. Last spring I took floral design, and they mentioned that the wildlife major had a similar class but for interior plants. I decided then that I would take this class at some point. And that point was this semester.

THIS CLASS IS AMAZING. I've learned lots of cool stuff, spent lots of time in the greenhouse, and acquired excellent replacements for any pets (plants don't require anything but water, and they don't shed hair or poop...win-win-win). You should all take this class if you get a chance.

But now that my plug is over, I'd like to introduce you to the plants I've acquired over the semester. We'll start with the air plants, which were actually a Christmas gift from Mariah.
Behold, the majestic Tillandsia. Apparently these flower once a year, but I have yet to see any such thing. They are super cool though because they don't need dirt! Just an occasional bath. They live in the fishbowl:
And they are a lovely permanent centerpiece for our kitchen table.

Tomorrow we'll meet more of the family. Here's a sneak peek:
Play name that plant if you feel so inclined!

Why I haven't blogged in a while

I really don't have an excuse other than this:

You might think I'm joking, but there have actually been countless times in the last couple weeks when I've been all, "Free time! I should blog!" but have then been coaxed by the little bookmark bar icon calling out to me for one quick round of 2048. I realized that things had gotten out of control when I stopped by the blog yesterday and noticed that I hadn't posted for THREE WEEKS. Whoops, clumsy me.

But today I won! So I can come back to blogging now.

The proof is in the pudding:

Seriously though, if you click that link, I hope you are prepared to sell your soul.
You have been warned.

Kodak moment

Orchestrating wedding posts tonight to avoid doing math homework (not that this happens very often...), I came across this real gem of a photo:
All of the couples in this photo are from my high school. And all of us graduated in either 2010 or 2011 (except Jonny, but he should have graduated in 2010). And all of us are friends.

And now all of us are married. (Well, Brittany and Jesse are engaged, but I'm counting it.)

And I think that's pretty cray.

And I also think that our photographer was pretty darn talented to somehow have managed four of the Timpanogos couples in one photo from another Timpanogos couple's wedding.

Oh! And five of the people in this photo grew up in the same ward. And I was in that ward too.

And these aren't the only Timpanogos couples! But I guess people marry people from high school all the time. But this just feels like an abnormally high concentration of such circumstances. That's all.

Yeah. That's really all I have to say about it. Just that I think it's cool.
Ok. Signing off now.

Moms just know.

An excerpt from an email to my missionary friend this week:

And I had two little moments where I wanted to complain about being poor students this week: 1) I am tired of eating Ramen every day for lunch because it is not healthy and I want to eat healthy, and 2) I am suddenly burnt out on my wardrobe and I just want a new shirt! Haha these are lame, I know, but I didn't voice them or anything. I just complained in my head and then let it go. Anyways, I'm a drama queen.

BUT Heavenly Father came through (as He always does) without my even asking. Check it:

1) On Friday my mom posted an Instagram picture of her lunch and it was asparagus and cheese and she used to eat that all the time and I would always snitch a bite because it was yummy...and then on Saturday, asparagus went on super sale!! So hello, healthy lunches for this whole week.

And THEN 2) last night we went to my parents' house to visit, and my mom was all, "Oh hey! Here's your bundt pan that I borrowed, and your mail from this week, and also I saw this cute shirt at Kohl's for 3 bucks and thought you might want it so I bought it for you!" And I was, like, almost in tears, haha. It's adorbs, and versatile, and I can match it with so much of what I already have and get a whole bunch of new outfits with one free shirt! I was so so happy. And I was amazed, yet again, at how well my Heavenly Father knows me.

Striped shirts and asparagus, building testimonies every weekend.

Also: Mom texted me today very soon after I had turned in a very (VERY) stressful paper to say "Love you. Miss you. Think the world of you. Paper done?" And then we chatted about the chicken salad I forgot to ask her about on Sunday.

Guys. Mommy instincts. They're a thing.

Picture!
My cool mom and my cool uncle, of course.
Just look at those mommy instincts radiating out of her.
They're a thing.

Blues night

As you may know, my husband is a musician. He is a pretty darn good one (if I do say so), and lately he has had many opportunities to perform. Since I am his wife, I get to go and just enjoy the show. Except also my job is usually to take pictures and video for him so he can start building his online musicianship profiles and such, but...mostly I just enjoy the show, and eat snacks. It's a good life.

Last month and this month we headed to Spanish Fork for Blues Night at a little venue right across from the fire station. They host weekly jam sessions of various musical genres, but we only go to Blues Night because apparently you don't need to know anything genre-specific in order to just get up and play? You will need to ask Joseph for the specs on that comment because I know some music stuff but that does not mean I would ever just get up and play along. But he does! And he's a hit.

Anyway, Blues Night was last night, so we dressed up real warm (side note: they don't heat the building...NO CLUE WHY) and stayed out real late, jamming. Some guy from the newspaper was taking pictures and interviewed my husband! So that was exciting. Since the bands on stage depend entirely on whoever signs up to go play, it's a different group every time. I thought last night's band was better than last month's band, so I took a couple videos. However, I am scared of uploading them so you might not get to see them. If Joseph puts them on YouTube, then I will upload them. In the meantime, I can show you pictures!

The venue and host band:

Joe jamming with this crazy guitar guy who cracks us up, plus Dr. Bob on the harmonica, of course:

Three cheers for the BLUES! Yeah.
